OMCDC now offers transitional housing for women at a new location in Akron!

Touchstone is a unique program offering housing assistance while residents receive comprehensive online treatment for substance abuse disorders. Residents can be pregnant or have minor children (5 & under) on site and there is also handicapped accessibility.

The site provides single & double suites with semi-private bathrooms, common kitchen and dining, and on-site child care and laundry facilities. Additional supportive services may be available.

The Ohio Multi-County Development Corporation, in conjunction with Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority, has recently opened a new housing program for young women ages 18-24 in Ravenna.

PORTAGE HORIZON is a permanent housing facility offering a stable housing solution for young women struggling with homelessness and other housing related issues. On Wednesday January 18, 2012 OMCDC will be hosting two- 30 minute information sessions to discuss PORTAGE HORIZON.

We invite you to attend either session to learn more about eligibility, how to refer applicants and what services are provided to residents.  The sessions will be held on-site at Portage Horizon and attendees will have opportunity to tour the property.

Portage Horizon is Open! Special guests and OMCDC officially open the new program on 11/16.

OMCDC recently opened our first program in Portage County. Portage Horizon is a partnership with Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority and will be home to six young females ages 18-24.  The program is modeled after our successful Summit County program — Horizon House, where young adults are given housing while they are working, completing an education and planning for their futures.

OMCDC is now accepting applications for this program. Applicants must be Portage County residents and be eligible for low-income housing.

This grant, along with a $102,000 match from the Community Health Center Foundation, enabled the purchase and renovation of two homes and will provide supportive services to residents during their stay.

Portage Horizon follows the model of the successful program Horizon House (link to HH Page), that OMCDC has been operating since 2005.  The program’s goals include helping residents develop a life management plan to fulfill their personal goals.  Residents are encouraged to continue and/or complete their high school diploma, technical training and/or college while in the program and work part time to save for their futures.  Support is given to residents throughout their stay and mentoring is provided by the resident advisor and through community support.
